Colombian Cacao Drives the Arrival of the Paco Torreblanca Award at Alimentec

Colombian cacao is going through one of its finest moments. With record export figures and growing international recognition for its quality, aroma, and origin, the country is consolidating its position as one of the most relevant players in the global fine cacao market.

This positioning has led Colombia to become the host of international events such as the Paco Torreblanca International High Pastry Award, a competition that seeks the best chocolate cake in the world. The contest will take place on June 9 and 10 within the framework of Alimentec | Anuga Select Colombia 2026, bringing together professional chefs and students competing for the title.

According to data from the National Federation of Cacao Growers, the country surpassed 16,457 tons of exported cacao and derivatives, strengthening its presence in markets such as the United States, Europe, and Asia. This growth has made Colombian cacao an increasingly valued raw material among chocolatiers, chefs, and pastry experts around the world.

"The arrival of a competition of this caliber at Alimentec | Anuga Select Colombia demonstrates how the country is consolidating itself as a reference point for gastronomy, food transformation, and the valorization of origin ingredients. Today Colombia produces high-quality raw materials and is becoming a stage for the development of gastronomic talent and creativity."

Furthermore, the competition arrives at a pivotal moment for the industry's transformation, as consumers increasingly seek more authentic, traceable products connected to stories of origin.

"There is a growing appreciation worldwide for origin ingredients and authentic gastronomic experiences. Colombia has an extraordinary opportunity because it combines biodiversity, cacao quality, and a new generation of gastronomic talent that is taking those ingredients to international stages," said Alberto Almanza, Project Manager at Koelnmesse.

Through initiatives like this, Alimentec | Anuga Select Colombia continues to strengthen its positioning as one of the most relevant platforms for innovation, trends, and business in the food and beverage industry across Latin America.
This year's edition will bring together more than 650 exhibitors, including companies, experts, chefs, and industry leaders, to discuss the future of food, sustainability, gastronomy, origin ingredients, the HORECA sector, and new consumption trends.
